Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was asked repeatedly Wednesday whether he engaged in defamation by misleading the public about his own service in the Minnesota Army National Guard.
Waltz’s comments about his more than 20-year military career have drawn renewed attention after he was selected as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in this year’s November election.
On the runway before the campaign rally, reporters repeatedly shouted at Walz, asking what he thought about the Republican vice presidential nominee’s comments. J.D. Vance They accused him of stolen valor.
“You know what really bothers me about Tim Waltz? When the Marines asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did. When Tim Waltz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, he quit the Army and allowed his unit to go without him. I find that disgraceful,” Vance said of the issue.
Waltz was deployed to Italy but did not serve in Iraq or Afghanistan during the war on terror.
Walz ignored reporters’ questions and walked out of the room with Harris.
Vance isn’t the only member of the veteran and military community to criticize Waltz’s decision to leave his unit before deploying to Iraq — those same troops have publicly said he abandoned them at a critical time.
Alpha News report Paul Herr, who served with Walz in 2022, said the man he knows is a “habitual liar” who will “say anything to anybody to make them think he’s doing the best thing for them.”
Another issue veterans have with Waltz is that he says he brought weapons to war even though he never actually saw combat.
“We can see that weapons of war that were brought into the war are right where they are,” Walz said while campaigning for gun control. Walz deployed to Italy but did not serve in Iraq or Afghanistan during the war on terror.
