Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday unveiled its latest models: vehicles that run on just two wheels.
Detroit’s auto giant Three new electric bicycles launched The collaboration with motorcycle company N+ took inspiration from the best-selling Bronco and Mustang.
Electric bikes can accelerate to a maximum speed of 28 mph and have a range of around 60 miles, depending on the cyclist’s riding style and the power used.
Pricing for the Bronco electric bike starts at $4,500. Customers can pay an additional $390 to have it painted in one of 10 colors beyond the standard Area 51.
Pricing for the Mustang e-bike starts at $4,000, and customers can choose paint colors other than metallic gray for an additional fee.
“These new e-Bikes allow more people to experience the adventure of Bronco and the exhilaration of Mustang the moment they get behind the wheel,” Tyler Hill, Ford global brand licensing manager, said in a statement.
While Ford isn’t the first major automaker to introduce an e-bike (General Motors, Porsche and Jeep have all developed e-bikes in the past), it appears to be the first automaker to develop an e-bike modeled after a traditional car.
In addition to the Bronco and Mustang bikes, a limited-edition Mustang 60th Anniversary bike will also be available at Ford dealerships.
All new Ford e-bikes come equipped with a 750W hub motor that delivers 85 Nm of torque.
Ford says the e-bike features four-piston hydraulic brakes that provide “superior braking performance” and “enhanced control.”
There will be a centre-mounted LCD that displays real-time information on speed, battery level and range.
The automaker says it can be fully charged in three and a half hours.
Like the Bronco SUV, the rugged Bronco e-bike is built for adventure and rocky terrain.
The car has a dual suspension system that Ford calls “GOAT” (short for “Goes Over Any Type of Terrain”) and a motorcycle-inspired saddle.
The Bronco e-bike rides on Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M hardwall 2.75 x 2.6-inch tires.
On the other hand, the Mustang e-bike’s biggest attraction is its cool, sleek look.[mimic] “An iconic sports car,” Ford said.
The Mustang e-bike is fitted with Pirelli Angel GT semi-slick tires.
