Tim Walz, Accused of Stolen Valor, Voted ‘Yea’ on the Stolen Valor Act

Embattled Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, voted for the federal Stolen Honor Act of 2013 while in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The vote seems ironic as Walz faces accusations of defamation, especially since a video surfaced Wednesday in which he falsely claimed he served in a war and misrepresented his military record.

Stolen Honor Act Modified Provisions regarding fraudulent claims regarding military service according to To Congress.gov:

Stolen Valor Act of 2013 – Amends the federal criminal code and rewrites provisions regarding false military service claims to impose fines, imprisonment of up to one year, or both on any individual who, with the intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible advantage, fraudulently represents himself or herself as the beneficiary of:

  • Congressional Medal of Honor,
  • Distinguished Service Cross,
  • Navy Cross,
  • Air Force Cross,
  • Silver star,
  • Purple Heart Medal,
  • Combat Infantryman Badge,
  • Combat Action Badge,
  • Combat Medical Badge,
  • Combat Action Ribbon,
  • Combat Merit Medal, or
  • Replacement or replica medals of said medals as permitted by law.

Shortly after Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris selected Waltz as her running mate, accusations emerged that he had lied about his military record.

According to Politico Playbook: include Waltz:

  • Abandoning subordinates before they are deployed overseas.
  • Lie about participating in the battle.
  • He claims to have served in Afghanistan.
  • exaggerate his status.
