Biden hosts Texas Rangers at White House to celebrate 2023 World Series championship

The Texas Rangers visited the White House on Thursday and were congratulated by President Biden on winning the 2023 World Series.

The Rangers won the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 and Corey Seager was named World Series MVP.

President Biden detailed the team’s journey to the World Series, including losing their division title on the final day of the regular season and having to play in the wild-card round.

The Rangers swept the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card Round and the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Series.

The 46th President of the United States drew cheers from family and friends in attendance as he commented on the Rangers’ “revenge” against the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series.

President Biden praised several players for their contributions along the way to the championship.

“Outstanding pitcher. Nathan (Eovaldi). He holds the major league record with five wins in one postseason,” Biden said. “(Adolis) Garcia. That’s also a major league record. Most RBIs in a single postseason.”

Biden joked that if the Rangers win another World Series, manager Bruce Bochy will have to wear a fifth World Series ring, either on his thumb or on his other hand, because last fall was his fourth World Series victory.

But it seems unlikely that the Rangers will win a second straight World Series, let alone make the playoffs. The defending champions are 54-61, third in the American League West and 9.5 games out of the final wild-card spot.

The Rangers presented Biden with a jersey bearing the number 46 and his name on the back, as well as cowboy boots featuring the Rangers’ World Series championship logo.

Following the ceremony, the Rangers traveled to New York to take on the New York Yankees on Friday at 7:05 pm ET.
