We’ll See if Walz Answers Questions on Military Record, ‘If He Ever Takes Questions’

On CNN’s “Inside Politics” broadcast Thursday, CNN chief national affairs correspondent Jeff Zeleny said it will be interesting to see whether Gov. Tim Walz (D), a 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate, will answer questions about his military history, “if he gets asked the question at all.”

Zeleny said questions about Walz’s military record “is not one issue. Sen. Vance (R-Ohio) raised the issue in a press conference in Michigan, but as Brianna pointed out, when he decided to retire and whether he used weapons of war are two entirely separate issues. So we’ll be watching to see if they respond to that and if Walz answers or is questioned about that.”

He also said Walz’s issues are different from those faced by John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election. Kerry said Walz’s issues have become a long-running talking point, but many in the Republican Party don’t want Walz to be a talking point for long and believe the long-term focus of the campaign should be going after Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, on issues such as immigration and inflation.
