Suspended Labour MP Ricky Jones, 57, was charged with inciting a violent disorder after being filmed addressing a crowd at a protest in London on Wednesday night.
Jaswant Narwal, lead prosecutor for the North London Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has given the Metropolitan police permission to prosecute Ricky Jones, 57, for incitement to violence and mayhem.”
“Mr Jones was filmed addressing a crowd in Walthamstow on Wednesday 7 August in which he made statements and gestures that appeared to incite others to use violence against far-right protesters.”
“He will be arrested and charged within 48 hours and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on the afternoon of 9 August 2024. We remind all involved that criminal proceedings are ongoing and he has a right to a fair trial.”
“It is vital that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online that may in any way adversely affect this trial.”
