North Carolina Woman Dies in Chicago Airport Baggage Carousel

A North Carolina woman died after becoming “entangled” in a baggage claim conveyor belt at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her a suicide, and the official cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation due to hanging.

The woman was identified Friday as 57-year-old Virginia Christine Vinton, of Waxhaw, North Carolina.

A Department of Labor spokesman confirmed that Vinton was not an airport employee.

It is unclear how she managed to gain access to restricted areas within the terminal.
