Jack Black says Tenacious D ‘needs a break’ but will return

Actor and musician Jack Black has vowed that his band Tenacious D will eventually return from hiatus, despite cancelling a tour following comments about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

During a tour in Sydney, Australia, while bandmate Kyle Gass was performing with Black, Gass was asked what his birthday wish was. To everyone’s surprise, Gass replied, “Just don’t miss Trump next time,” referencing Trump’s near-death by a sniper just two days earlier.

The following day, Black announced that the band’s future creative plans were on hold and the remainder of the tour was canceled.

Black had this to say about the band’s current situation: Variety At the Borderlands movie premiere.

“We need a break. Everybody needs a break,” Black said of the group’s future. “And then we’ll come back,” he added.

When asked if he had spoken to Gus since the tour was canceled, Gus replied, “Yeah, we’re friends. That won’t change. These things sometimes take time… And I’ll be back when I feel like it.”

“I love Tenacious D. I’d say it’s my favorite job.”

Black issued a statement. Instagram After the tour was canceled, he said he was “blindsided” by Gus’s comments and that he “never condones hate speech or encourages political violence in any form.”

In his since-deleted post, Gass said his “improvised” lines were “highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.”

“I do not condone violence of any kind or form towards anyone. What happened is tragic and I deeply regret my poor judgment. I am deeply sorry to those I have let down and I sincerely regret any pain I have caused,” Gass added.

Despite the apology, Gass was later reportedly fired by his talent agency over the incident. Daily Mail.

At the Borderlands premiere, Black showed off the magical guitar pick he used in the groundbreaking musical comedy film Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

The album and film gained cult popularity as Black was becoming a staple in Hollywood comedies.

“Look what I wore today. I was wearing the pick of fate,” Black said on the red carpet. “I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favorite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art and it’s something I treasure.”

Tenacious D’s last studio album, Post Apocalypto, was released in 2018.
