Teenager going for a quick swim severely injured in shark attack

According to reports, a 15-year-old girl from Aspen, Colorado, was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark while scuba diving in Belize this week, and a fundraising page set up in her honor.

Annabelle Carlson had just returned to a tour boat on Tuesday after scuba diving with her family and a tour group when she decided to jump back in the water for a quick swim, according to a fundraising page set up by a family friend.

The Belize Coast Guard told ABC News the girl lost a leg in the attack.

“Then the unthinkable happened – a 1 in 11.5 million chance of something like this happening. The unthinkable happened – a shark attack – an extremely aggressive, extremely traumatic and terrifying fight for her life,” the fundraising page reads.

“Annabel did her best to repel the attack but was seriously injured in the battle.”

Carlson was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Belize City and “the quick actions of the Belize emergency response team saved her life,” the report said.

According to the fundraising page, Carlson has since been flown back to the United States, where he is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
