On NBC’s “MTP Now” on Friday, Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-Ill.) responded to a question about 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris abandoning the multiple positions she took during the 2020 presidential election, saying, “Everybody should have a better understanding of how things work. It’s okay to take a position.”
“Vice President Harris has been the de facto Democratic nominee for several weeks now. But in that time, she’s already begun to backtrack on some of the positions she took when she first ran for president in 2020. Is that concerning you at all? Should voters know why she’s changed her position and how it might affect her future decisions?” host Ryan Nobles asked.
Sorensen responded: “Everyone’s understanding of how things work is evolving. It’s OK to clarify a position. It’s OK to change your mind as you learn new things. I’m a meteorologist. … When I first started to find out what was going on, I was a climate skeptic. I was one of those people who said humans can’t be causing this. But then I did enough research and saw some data and the data started pointing in the right direction and I was like, ‘Ah,'” he said. … I think it’s healthy for people to clarify their positions as they learn new things.
