Biden Admits Why He Dropped Out Of Election, Name-Drops Pelosi

In his first interview since dropping out of the 2024 presidential race, Joe Biden announced the reasons for his decision to drop out of the race.

In an interview CBS News Sunday Morning, The president said many of his Democratic colleagues, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., should urge Biden to drop out of the race, arguing that his continued campaign would damage the Democratic Party as a whole.
“Many of my Democratic colleagues in the House and the Senate thought that I would hurt them in the campaign,” Biden explained, “and they were worried that if I continued on the campaign trail, I would be interviewed about why Nancy Pelosi said this.” [something] … And I thought that would be a real distraction.”
Biden sees himself as a “transition president” and argues that it is time for the next generation to take over.
“When I first ran, I thought I’d be a presidential replacement. I can’t even tell you how old I am. It’s hard to get age out of your mouth,” Biden said. Those factors, along with the overriding priority of “preserving our democracy,” led to his final decision, Biden added.
Number 46Number The president said the race between him and Donald Trump was close, and he believes current Vice President Kamala Harris has the advantage.
“The polls predicted it would be a close race and it was close until the end, but many of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought I would hurt them in the race and were concerned that if I continued the campaign, that would become a talking point,” he said.
Biden endorsed Harris the day she dropped out of the race.
