Oscar Piastri has enjoyed a brilliant start to his second season in Formula 1. The McLaren driver currently sits fourth in the F1 Drivers’ Championship standings and made his breakthrough with his first win at the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July.
We now know that the driver had to survive broken ribs.
Piastri shared a post on social media on Sunday morning showcasing some of the highlights from his second season in F1, including photos of his podium celebrations in Hungary and Monaco, where he claimed his first podium of the season.
They also attached an X-ray showing a “fractured left 6th rib,” noting in the caption that Piastri wrote that it was the first “fracture” of the season and that the rib was “enjoying the break.”
The x-ray is dated July 8th, the day after the British Grand Prix. (For those who don’t know, Piastri was born on April 6th 2001, and the date of birth on the x-ray is in day-month-year format: 06-04-2001. The date on the x-ray is 08-07-2024.)
This means Piastri has completed both the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he recorded his first F1 victory, and the Belgian Grand Prix, where he finished third and was promoted to second after George Russell was disqualified while recovering from a broken rib.
As anyone who has suffered a rib injury can attest, it’s never comfortable, and forcing an F1 car around the track was certainly not something Piastri was comfortable with.
Reports sayPiastri was injured “around the time of the Austrian Grand Prix at the end of June” and has now made a full recovery.
Imagine how he would perform now.
