Elle King has spoken about her sometimes difficult childhood as the daughter of Hollywood star Rob Schneider, saying in an interview that her father was “just not a good person.”
The country musician revealed during an interview on the “Dumb Blonde” podcast with Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunny XO, that she sometimes “doesn’t speak to her father for four or five years.”
“Your dad was one of the people I looked up to growing up,” Bunny told King, 35, an actor who appeared in “Deuce Bigalow.”

King said her relationship with her father had its own unique ups and downs: “It was only after I put out a record that people finally started asking about my dad. He called me and said, ‘Don’t talk about me in the press.'”

She recalled, “If I was going to spend the summer with my dad, it would be on a movie set. I’d just be buried in the chaos. If I messed up or talked about filming, I’d be in real trouble.”
Bunny asked, “Did you ever feel like you two were connected?” King replied, “I never did until I was much older.”
The “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer recalled, “I was a really fat kid. My dad sent me to obesity camp, and one year I sprained my ankle and I didn’t lose the weight, so that caused some problems.”

In another excerpt, King recalls, “I had already started getting tattoos, but it was like 108 degrees and my dad was very against tattoos and any form of self-expression that wasn’t what he wanted, so I had to wear a sweater.

“I don’t agree with a lot of the things he says. You say crap, you say crap about drugs and anti-gay rights. It’s like…fuck. I want to take this opportunity to say I don’t agree. I don’t agree with a lot of the things he says.”

Bunny interjected, “Did your dad ever try to help you?”, to which El replied, “No, he never helped me. He never wanted me to help him.”
“He didn’t have a very good reputation either. I don’t want to have anything to do with him. He’s just not a nice person. As much as I wish someone would change, I can’t control other people’s actions. I can’t control their emotions. All I can control is how I react and what I do with my emotions. Sometimes I get so angry I explode and I lose my mind.”

“I tried every angle. I tried writing, I tried being nice, I tried yelling. My dad forgot every single birthday. I spent my 18th birthday at summer school and everyone brought me cupcakes, but when I got home my dad had forgotten my birthday.”
“You’re ruining my fantasy about Rob here,” Bunny told the country singer, to which she replied, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“It’s done. It’s done. It’s finished. I’m Team L,” Bunny said.
