Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond encourages her husband to take a step back when it comes to working on the ranch.
In a recent post on her blog, The Pioneer Blog, the Food Network star revealed how it feels to see her husband, Ladd Drummond, continuing to work in the fields on their ranch, explaining that he’s had a “busy and somewhat challenging summer.”
“I know I say this every year, but the work, the early mornings, the relentless work, the fatigue… it’s been a bit tough,” she wrote.
She wrote later in the post that Rudd was quick to clarify that he wasn’t complaining to her, that this was all her own feelings, and that he would probably say, “That’s what he does and it’s part of life.”

Ladd comes from a long line of ranchers and has been a rancher for most of his life in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He and Lee own and operate the Drummond Ranch and live on the property in a newly constructed home.
“A few weeks ago, after a particularly long day, I found my husband limping around covered in dust and blood and I honestly said, ‘I can’t do this anymore,'” she wrote. “I was half joking, and maybe a little less joking. I was really questioning how hard I could work, how long I could keep it up, and whether I’d be okay.”
Lee began to worry about Ladd’s overwork three years after he was in a car accident while trying to put out a wildfire on his ranch with his nephew, Caleb.
“Rad has had a busy and somewhat difficult summer. I think I say this every year, but the work, the early mornings, the relentless work, the fatigue… it’s been a bit tough.”
Rudd refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident and instructed emergency personnel to help his nephew rather than himself, instead choosing to drive himself to hospital, where his injuries were more severe than expected.

“[Ladd] “It appears he broke his neck in two places, one of which was near catastrophic,” Lee said in a March 2021 blog post. “Did I mention the Cowboys don’t want to admit they were injured? Mr. Ladd was transported to Tulsa where he underwent surgery to stabilize one of the fractures. Thanks to a rod and other equipment (and an incredible neurosurgeon named Dr. Kalani), he is now healed and out of danger.”
A few weeks later, Lea posted a photo of her husband riding a horse on Instagram, letting fans know that “Rad and Caleb are recovering from their ranch accident.”
The couple have five children: Alex, 27, Paige, 24, Bryce, 21, Todd, 20, and Jamar, 21, whom they fostered in 2018. The couple recently celebrated their daughter Paige’s engagement in Dallas, Texas. Lee detailed the party on her blog, writing about how wonderful it is to see her husband enjoying a break from the hard work on the ranch.
“So to see him walking around with a smile on his face and enjoying himself celebrating his second child and the man she’s going to marry, it made me feel a little better,” she said.
