Matt Damon thankful he’s ‘boring,’ ‘can’t imagine’ living under scrutiny like pal Ben Affleck

Matt Damon loves being described as “boring.”

Damon, 53, said he felt “really lucky” to have avoided “scrutiny”, unlike his friend and fellow actor Ben Affleck.

“I’ve been really fortunate in that sense… especially when I look at Casey. [Affleck]”My brother Ben,” he said during his appearance on the show. Radio Times Podcast“I can’t imagine living under that kind of surveillance.”

“That’s been the case for 25 years and we had parallel careers in many ways so I think I was lucky to be exempt from that part. [it]” Damon added.

As Damon became more famous, he used his job to hide from the paparazzi and scandals that dominated the tabloids at the time, and he eventually met his wife, Luciana Barroso, who didn’t work in showbiz.

“That really helped me because all of this, which was a huge magazine culture 25 years ago, was ignoring me because it wasn’t a very interesting story, you know? A married guy’s story is very boring.”

“About 20 years ago, they sent some photographers over, and I was like, ‘Well, you can wait for me. I’ll just sit around at home.’ When I went out, I was like with my wife. There was nothing there.”

Damon acknowledged that he was not involved in the sex and scandal that sells gossip magazines.

“That really helped me because all of this, which was a huge magazine culture 25 years ago, was ignoring me because it wasn’t a very interesting story, you know? A married guy’s story is very boring.”

“And unless I did any of that, there was no point in waiting to get the photo,” he explained, “so I ended up being left alone.”

Meanwhile, Affleck could not seem to escape the paparazzi, who kept swirling around his relationship and then-broken engagement to fellow actor Jennifer Lopez, as well as his marriage and subsequent divorce from Jennifer Garner.

Affleck made headlines again in 2021 when he rekindled his relationship with Lopez and married her the following year, but it appears there’s trouble in paradise and the couple is back in the spotlight.

Rumors of a separation have since intensified. Affleck skips the Met Gala Affleck starred alongside Lopez in May, when his filming schedule reportedly forced him to miss a star-studded charity event celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibit opening in 2024. A rep for Affleck told Fox News Digital at the time that the actor was in Los Angeles filming “The Accountant 2.”

The cause of the couple’s rift is unclear, but they often clash over parenting styles.

“They’ve been fighting over differences on parenting,” a source told Fox News Digital. “They have very different parenting styles.”
