Congratulations to Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
The Oilers’ No. 1 overall pick in 2015, who lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers in June, recently married interior designer Lauren Kyle in Ontario. The photo was published in Australian Vogue.
The ceremony took place outdoors on Old Woman’s Island, a small island across from Lake Muskoka where the couple got engaged last summer.
There are also cottages on the shores of Lake Musyoka.
Another photo showed Oilers winger Evander Kane also attending the wedding.
“The production took 10 days, with four events taking place in different locations and infrastructure built on an island that was only accessible by boat,” Kyle told the publication.
The wedding theme was European summer.
Visitors were asked to wear “old money themed attire” in pastel shades of pink and purple, similar to the hydrangeas planted at the venue.
“The colorful costumes, gardens, spritz bar, tennis courts and jazz band made for the most beautiful evening – it truly was a European summer dream come true,” Kyle enthused.
Kyle said the normally reserved McDavid was unexpectedly emotional during the ceremony.
“One of the unexpected things about our wedding was Connor’s vows. He’s usually quite reserved and doesn’t show his emotions, but his vows were so emotional and heartfelt. And to be able to share them in front of all our friends and family was really special.”
Kyle wore five vintage looks, including a Ralph Lauren runway dress from the Spring/Summer 2007 collection and a Chloe dress famously worn by supermodel Kate Moss on the runway in 1997.
She wore a custom Vivienne Westwood gown for the ceremony and a Danielle Frankel dress for the welcome dinner.
For the ceremony, McDavid wore a custom tuxedo from Montreal-based men’s clothing brand The Cloakroom.
For his first appearance, he wore a green linen suit by Brunello Cucinelli.
After their wedding, the newlyweds went on a boat trip around the lake.
“Connor and I celebrated our win by going around the island on a vintage wooden boat. It was so great to spend time together. I’m grateful for where we were and all the people that came out to support us,” Kyle said.
“We really got to enjoy the moment.”
Canadian DJ group Loud Luxury performed at the afterparty.
This came nearly two months after the Panthers defeated the Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to win their first title.
McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff’s most outstanding player.
McDavid proposed to Kyle in Ontario last June after winning his third Hart Trophy as the NHL’s 2023 MVP following a historic 64-goal, 153-point season.
Kyle runs Kyle & Co., a full service interior design firm in Edmonton.
The couple also have a miniature Bernedoodle named Leonard.
