Trump on climate change: ‘You'll have more oceanfront property’

Former President Trump said Monday night that climate change isn’t the “biggest threat,” arguing that it will create “more beachfront real estate.”

Trump made the remarks during an interview with Elon Musk on his social media platform, X.

“The biggest threat is not global warming. It’s that over the next 400 years, sea levels are going to rise an eighth of an inch and we’re going to have more land by the sea,” Trump said, raising concerns about nuclear proliferation.

Sea level rise is caused by global warming. Over the next 30 years, sea levels along the U.S. coast are expected to rise 10 to 12 inches. 2022 Federal Report.

Sea levels are likely to rise even more by the end of the century: by 2100, sea levels are expected to be 2 to 7 feet higher than they were in the year 2000.

More broadly, scientists warn that further climate change is expected to bring more heatwaves, more frequent and intense rainfall and droughts.

Trump has falsely claimed that climate change is a “hoax” and his campaign and previous administration were full supporters of fossil fuels that cause global warming and opposed regulations aimed at mitigating climate change.
