An 85-year-old Wyoming homeowner described the frightening altercation to police late Friday night, saying he struggled with an intruder and then shot him. Cowboy State Daily.

Wayne Williams told the newspaper he heard punching and kicking outside his home in the 900 block of East Park Avenue in Riverton just after 11 p.m.

“So we both fell down the stairs and I was on top of him at the time.”

Williams told the newspaper he pulled his .380-caliber handgun from its holster, tossed the holster on the bed, went to the front door and opened it to confront the intruder.

“The guy was clearly out of his mind,” Williams told the paper, adding that the intruder appeared to be drunk. “He said ‘they’ sent him to my house. ‘They’ said he owned my house and I said I didn’t. It was just crazy.”

The homeowner added to the Daily that the intruder was six inches taller than him and forced himself into the house.

According to the paper, Williams tried to fire the gun, but the gun only clicked. Williams told the Daily he realized he had forgotten to load the barrel.

“Go ahead and shoot me,” the intruder said, Williams added to the newspaper.

“I don’t know if he was trying to kill himself because of me or what,” Williams told the Daily.

Williams told the paper that she struggled with the intruder and pushed him outside, but was saved by his “somewhat disorganised” attack as they struggled on her front porch.

The homeowner added to the Daily that he believes the intruder may have tripped at the top of the front door steps and fallen down the stairs, along with Williams.

“So we both fell down the stairs, and I was on top of him at the time,” Williams explained to the newspaper.

As the two men tried to get up, Williams told the Daily he heard one shot and then the intruder say, “I’ve been shot.” Williams told the paper he believes he shot the intruder in the leg.

“I’m still worried. I don’t know if I’ll ever see that guy again. I don’t know if he’ll come back.”

Williams told the paper he went back home and called 911. Police arrived quickly, but Williams told the Daily that the officers initially seemed more concerned about him and his gun than “the guy who was attacking me.” Williams told the paper he put down his gun and cooperated.

The officers asked Williams if he had come to the station for questioning and assured him they were not making an arrest, Williams added to the Daily.

Williams also told the paper that his home was searched while he was out and that when he returned home, the holster he had thrown on his bed was gone.

Police have not responded to the allegations, citing an ongoing investigation, and declined to comment on Monday after Saturday’s report, the Daily reported. statementThe spokesman said the alleged intruder was in hospital in stable condition.

Williams told the paper she had been experiencing dizziness and vision problems since Sunday, but she didn’t know if it was related to the altercation on Friday night.

“I’m still worried,” he explained to the Daily. “I don’t know if I’ll ever see the guy again. I don’t know if he’ll come back.”
