On Tuesday’s episode of NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Report,” Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) said he has issues with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but that Netanyahu is actually trying to negotiate a ceasefire while Hamas is not, and that Hamas has “violated five ceasefire agreements it has previously committed to.”
Auchincloss said Netanyahu’s loss of credibility in Israel was hindering efforts toward a ceasefire and that he “must offer a positive alternative to Hamas’ nihilistic and negative vision.”
Host Elizabeth Vargas then asked:The New York Times “We are reporting today that Prime Minister Netanyahu continues to add more demands to the peace talks with Hamas. Is this a concern? The prime minister has publicly denied that he has done so, but documents indicate that he has.”
Auchincloss responded: “Well, at least they are negotiating. Hamas has withdrawn from negotiations and has actually broken five ceasefires that it has promised. Prime Minister Netanyahu is right to try to negotiate with terrorists. I have expressed my displeasure with him. Terrorists have made it part of their mission and charter to destroy not only Israelis but Jews all over the world. So they are difficult people to negotiate with. And he is the one at the negotiating table, they are not.”
