Democratic policies are causing some Democrats to switch to the Republican Party.
Some Texas Democrats have endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz for the U.S. Senate seat.
He will face off against U.S. Rep. Collin Allred.
Three and a half years into an unprecedented border crisis that has hit Texas border communities and residents of the state’s biggest cities, prominent Democrats are openly endorsing a Republican Senate candidate they had never supported before: Sen. Ted Cruz.
…
Another first for Cruz is the formation of a “Democrats for Cruz” coalition, which includes lifelong Democratic border patrol officers, judges, law enforcement union leaders, teachers, farmers and parents. Many of the lifelong Democrats in the coalition have said they will vote Republican for the first time in November.
Cruz’s support comes from law enforcement associations in the Democratic-controlled cities of Austin, Houston, McAllen and San Antonio, as well as Democratic-controlled counties of Bear, Dallas, Harris, Hidalgo and Travis. They cite the same reason: Allred voted against a police bill that would make assaulting a police officer a deportable offense. The bill was introduced by 16 Republicans in the House of Representatives in response to allegations that criminal aliens are increasingly targeting, assaulting and killing police officers. A similar bill was introduced in the Senate, but it never made it further under Democratic control.
Cruz has also been endorsed by Democrats along the border, including Zapata County Sheriff Raymundo del Bosque, Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez, Brewster County Sheriff Ronnie Dodson, Reeves County Sheriff Art Granado, Kennedy County Judge Charles Burns and Reeves County Judge Leo Hahn, many of whom are from the 55 counties that declared the invasion, The Center Square reported exclusively.
