WASHINGTON — Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz said Wednesday he plans to debate Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance on Oct. 1.
The Minnesota governor announced his preferred dates after CBS offered four debate dates between September 17 and October 8.
“See you on October 1st, JD,” Waltz said. Post to X.
Vance, the Ohio senator, has indicated he is open to a debate with Walz, but it was not immediately clear whether there would be any dispute over a timeline for reaching a final agreement.
The vice presidential debate is expected to focus on policy differences between the 40-year-old Republican and the 60-year-old Democrat, as well as Vance’s claim that Walz committed “defamation” by lying about his military record.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, the former president, and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris are scheduled to hold at least one debate on September 10 on ABC.
Trump, 78, has agreed to hold additional debates on Fox News on Sept. 4 and NBC on Sept. 25, but Harris, 59, has not confirmed those dates.
“I’d be happy to discuss additional debates or even debates beyond September 10th,” Harris said last week.
