‘Would It Kill You Guys to Have a Press Conference?’

On “CNN Newsroom” on Wednesday, host Jim Acosta grilled Vice President Kamala Harris’ spokesman, Michael Tyler, about her lack of participation in media interviews and press conferences.

“I don’t think I’ve heard this question before, but the Trump campaign has also been pressing the vice president about not giving enough interviews, not holding press conferences,” Acosta said. “Would holding a press conference be fatal to you? Why isn’t she holding a press conference?”

“The Vice President and Governor Walz have been busy traveling around the country since the start of their campaign, adding Governor Walz to their roster of candidates,” Tyler said. “You saw them in the last week traveling through battleground states, holding rallies for thousands, 10,000 here, 15,000 there.”

“But Michael, a rally is not a press conference. Can I interrupt? Because a rally is not a press conference. Why doesn’t she have a press conference? She’s the vice president, she can answer questions. Why doesn’t she?” Acosta demanded.

“I absolutely will. Listen to her answering questions during her speech. As she said last week, I plan on sitting down here and doing an interview with her by the end of this month,” Tyler said.

“One interview by the end of the month, that’s not many. Can we have a press conference by the end of the month?” Acosta said.

“We are committed to engaging directly with voters. Voters are the ones who actually decide the outcome of this election, and they will do that through rallies, interviews, press conferences and all the digital assets available to us. We are running a campaign that is built to communicate with voters,” Tyler said.
