Speaking on CNBC’s “Power Lunch” on Tuesday, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) said the Harris-Waltz campaign should “continue to do the same thing we’ve been doing” in the coming weeks, but with a stronger policy focus.
Co-moderator Kelly Evans asked, “What do they need to get right to solidify the gains they’ve made in the debates over the next few weeks? I think the debates will be more policy-driven. I think everyone will be pressing for more details about what exactly they’re going to do if they get into office. What’s your take?”
Murphy responded: “First of all, it’s the same as it’s always been. They’ve had an extraordinary few weeks, and it shows no signs of slowing down. They have their convention in Chicago next week, and if all goes well, and I expect it will, they’ll leave Chicago on a high note next Thursday night. But they also need to remember that this is a marathon. It’s not a general election campaign in three or four weeks. It’s about 70 days, plus or minus, between Chicago and Election Day. And they’ve got to win that day, every single day. Luckily, I know them. They’re the best duo I could imagine. From their political instincts to their life stories to their policy skills, they’ve got it all. So whether it’s a debate, a rally or sifting through life resumes, I couldn’t imagine a better duo to lead our candidates.”
