Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said on MSNBC’s “Ana Cabrera Report” on Thursday that “no one is going to believe” right-wing criticism of Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.)’s military record.
“Tim Walz’s idea of pursuing his 24 years of service is just one of those country kids I see right now who decided to enlist at 17, came from a farm or a small town and stuck with it. Not two years, not 10 years, 24 years, four years when he could have retired. He decided to run for office and became the oldest serving member of Congress and chair of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Go for it, pursue that service, because people understand the National Guard,” Klobuchar said.
She added: “The National Guard occasionally mobilizes to serve in Europe, to protect supply chains and assets, as Tim Walz did, and his troops have deployed there. But the National Guard often protects the homeland from threats as well as floods and hurricanes. We’re thinking right now of those in the path of Hurricane Ernesto — from hurricanes, fires, tornadoes and everything else. States across the country know exactly what I’m talking about. No one will believe this attack on 24 years of service.”
