A former campaign adviser to former President Barack Obama has predicted that the upcoming election between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will be “incredibly close.”
“When you look at undecided voters in this election, they’re down to about 5 percent,” Jim Messina, former President Barack Obama’s campaign manager, said at a press conference Thursday. exterior “And the question is, will any of those voters actually turn out to vote?” he said on Fox News.
Trump was leading President Biden by a significant margin until a few weeks ago, but dropped out of the presidential race last month after a disastrous debate defeat and growing concerns about his own intelligence and ability to defeat former President Biden.
Harris, who is expected to formally accept the Democratic nomination at the party’s convention next week, has had “the greatest four weeks in modern politics,” Messina said.
The vice president has been narrowing the gap in his approval rating with Trump and will face a major test when he debates Trump face-to-face for the first time on September 10 on ABC News.
“Democrats are complacent,” Messina continued. “This race is still close. It’s going to be very close.”
Currently, The Hill/Decision Desk Polling Index shows Harris leading Trump by 1.5 points (48.6 percent to 47.1 percent).
