PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News exclusively that the Democratic Party doesn’t care about veterans and the military, which is why he picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as his running mate, despite Vice President Kamala Harris’ history of stealing honors.
“I think the Democrats did it because I don’t think they care,” Trump said in an interview at Mar-a-Lago last week. “I don’t think they care about his military service. I don’t think they did it for themselves, but I don’t think they did it for the country.”
Walz’s history of name-stealing (he claimed he was “at war” when in fact he wasn’t) has been a major liability for Democrats and Harris. ABC News, CNNand many more have slammed Walz over the matter, and on Thursday, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s running mate in Pennsylvania, held a press conference with several veterans at the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to further slam Walz over the matter.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder, a top aide to former President Barack Obama, led the vetting of Harris’ running mate. Asked whether Holder and other potential Democrats seeking the Democratic presidential nomination — California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker — had deliberately pushed a weaker running mate for Harris in the hopes of her losing this year and paving the way for them in 2028 to have a shot at winning the nomination four years from now, Trump said he didn’t know.
“I don’t know,” Trump said. “I don’t know.”
But Trump argued that Harris would lose not because her running mate was deeply dishonest or because of corruption within the Democratic Party, but because she was completely extreme on the issues.
“I think Kamala is going to lose because she’s a far-left liberal who wants to cut the police budget and not build the wall,” Trump said. “Remember, I gave them 200 miles of wall, they could have built it in three weeks and they chose not to build it. They sold it for 5 cents on the dollar.”
