Vice President Harris’ campaign denounced former President Trump’s comments on Thursday, claiming the president lied and would not defend his policies.
The subject line of the email the Harris campaign sent back to Trump was “Statement from Trump about…whatever it is.”
“We are not sure what we saw, and neither is the United States,” the statement said.
At a press conference held at his Bedminster, New Jersey, home, Trump was asked by reporters about criticism from some Republican lawmakers that he should exercise more restraint and stop making personal attacks on Harris. “I expect to be attacked personally,” Trump replied.
The Harris campaign criticised the event, saying Ms Harris “appeared less conscious” and that being asked questions “did not improve the situation”.
“After ranting at a country club about his opposition to lowering the cost of food for middle and working class Americans and prescription drug costs for seniors, Donald Trump has returned to his usual lies and delusions,” spokesman James Singer said.
“Not surprisingly, Trump doesn’t want to stick to his policies that would increase taxes on families by $3,900 a year, cut Social Security and repeal the Affordable Care Act — all in order to give tax cuts to wealthy donors,” he added.
Ahead of Trump’s speech, his campaign issued a media advisory mocking the former president, saying he was likely to “attack another public outburst” and “repeatedly vent his frustrations.”
