LPGA star Charley Hull re-discovers form at Women’s Scottish Open following injury, 81 at Olympics

British woman Charlie Hull has had a hectic month.

She injured her shoulder after falling out of a shower, forcing her to withdraw from the Aramaco Team Series event in London in early July. Hull then missed the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship, an event she said she should never have played in. Still recovering from the accident, Hull then got off to a terrible start at the Olympic Games, shooting 9-over 81 and finishing third-to-last after the first day in Paris. But she overcame those hardships to record three consecutive rounds under par and finish the Olympic tournament one-over overall.

Currently, Hull is competing in the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open, showing she is back in form and ready to compete again. He shot a four-under 68. She improved to 6 under par on Friday and won by two strokes over Minjee Lee, who was in the lead after 36 holes.

“I played pretty consistent today,” Hull said.

“It was really windy this morning. It was pretty cold. But I think I came out pretty good. I got a couple of birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole, so I’m pretty happy with how I played.”

Despite hailing from the British Isles, Hull prefers the American style of golf, but judging by his performances in Scotland so far you’d never guess that was the case.

“I like links golf. I love links golf. But I feel like my game is tailored to America so I usually find it hard to play, especially in tournaments,” Hull said.

“But over the last few weeks my coach and I have been working on increasing my three-quarter swing so I can hit the ball lower at the British Open, so I think it’s really paying off.”

The Old Course at St. Andrews will host the AIG Women’s Open next week, marking the end of the LPGA’s major championship season, so Hull, along with many others, will be playing in this week’s Scottish Open, getting acquainted with the links style of golf and its charms. Many PGA Tour pros are doing the same at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Still, Hull’s preparations at Dundonald Links could lead to her first major win at St Andrews next week – something she came close to winning a year ago when she finished runner-up to Lilia Vu at the Walton Heath Ladies Open.

But at least she seems to be back on track and recovered from her injury, and if she hadn’t, Halle would have had no chance of winning a major championship.
