As Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump begins preparations for his next debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, he has turned to former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for advice.

Gabbard ran for president as a Democrat in 2020 and defeated Harris in a much-talked-about Democratic presidential primary debate, leading to Harris dropping out of the race.

Moreover, Gabbard abandoned her affiliation with the Democratic Party because she was unhappy with the party’s direction.

Gabbard has said that today’s Democratic Party is nothing like the party she once believed in, echoing the example of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently switched from Democrat to independent status.

Gabbard’s 2019 debate with Harris appears to be part of her motivation for joining Trump’s debate prep.

Meanwhile, Trump spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that Trump “has proven himself to be one of the greatest debaters in political history, as evidenced by his knockout win over Joe Biden. While Trump does not need traditional debate preparation, he will continue to meet with respected policy advisors and talented communicators, such as Tulsi Gabbard, who outshone Kamala Harris in the 2020 debates.”

During the debate, Gabbard confronted Harris about her time as San Francisco’s district attorney, where she “laughed when asked if she ever smoked marijuana after sending over 1,500 people to prison for marijuana violations.”

Republican pundits and political observers say it’s ironic that the Democratic Party, whose voters campaign on phrases like “defund the police” and “ACAB” (an acronym for “all cops are bastards”), is also enthusiastically supporting a former prosecutor who gleefully pens “meritless convictions.”

Harris eventually dropped out of the race a few months after the debate with Gabbard.
