Rep. Clay Higgins (R-Louisiana) has called for an examination of the body of would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks as part of the House investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, only to find that the shooter’s body was “gone” and that “the FBI wiped biological evidence from the crime scene.” Rep. Higgins says this evidence “damages Mr. Trump.”[d]” investigation.
The FBI released Crooks’ body for cremation on July 23, just 10 days after the Trump assassination attempt, but “no one knew about this,” including the Butler County coroner, law enforcement, or Butler County Sheriff Higgins, until August 5. said in Monday’s report.
“My efforts to examine Crooks’ body on Monday, August 5th caused quite a stir and revealed disturbing facts…The FBI released the body for cremation 10 days later. [July] “The 13th,” the congressman said. [July] On the 23rd, Crooks disappeared.
“Nobody knew about this until Monday, Aug. 5 — the county coroner, the police, the sheriff,” Higgins added.
“Indeed, the Butler County Coroner technically had legal jurisdiction over the body. However, I have spoken with the coroner, and the coroner would never have released Mr. Crooks’ body to the family for cremation or burial without explicit permission from the FBI,” the congressman revealed.
“It is unprecedented for the FBI to remove biological evidence from a crime scene,” Higgins said.
“Officers would never do that,” the deputies argued in the report.
“The FBI surprised everyone by releasing the crime scene just three days later,” Higgins said. “I interviewed several emergency responders who expressed a whole range of emotions, from surprise to dismay to incredulity that the FBI released the crime scene so quickly after J13.”
“It’s important to note that the FBI was fully aware of the fact that Congress would be investigating J13,” Higgins said.
“The FBI does not exist in a vacuum,” he added. “They must have known that releasing the J13 crime scene would negatively impact the immediate observations of the ensuing investigation.”
The councillor also noted that both the medical examiner’s report and the autopsy report are “delayed”.
“As of Monday, Aug. 5, they were a week behind,” he said. “The problem with not being able to examine the actual body is we don’t know 100 percent if the coroner’s report and the autopsy report are accurate. The reality is, we’ll never know.”
Higgins said he would eventually get autopsy reports and photographs, but “based on my own examination of the body, I will never be able to say with certainty that those reports and photographs will be accurate.”
“The FBI’s actions would be viewed by any reasonable person as nothing less than an obstruction of further investigative efforts,” the senator argued.
He also noted that on the day Crooks’ body was cremated, “both the Homeland Security and Oversight Committees had opened jurisdictional investigations into House Committee J13, and Chairman Johnson had already stated he would establish a formal congressional investigative body.”
“So why and by what means did the FBI release the body to the family and have it cremated?” Higgins asked. “The scorched earth pattern of the FBI’s investigation is deeply disturbing.”
The congressman made the remarks in a preliminary investigative report he submitted to Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), chairman of the Bipartisan Task Force Investigating the Assassination Attempt of President Donald Trump.
