Matt Schlapp, president of the American Conservative Union (ACU), Breitbart News Saturday People overseas say they “can’t believe” the way the US elections are conducted.
In an interview with host Matthew Boyle, Schlapp spoke about hosting the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) overseas, where people have expressed disbelief at some of the practices allowed in U.S. elections, such as allowing the use of ballot drop boxes.
Schlapp also explained that the group has sent several letters to secretaries of state in battleground states raising concerns about public confidence in elections and the use of the ballot box.
“We’ve seen so many strange things in our elections. When we go overseas for CPAC, people overseas see some of the things that are happening in our elections. They can’t believe it. They can’t believe that at the last minute a judge would say we don’t have to follow state law or that at the last minute you would so dramatically change the dynamics of the vote,” Shkrap explained.
Schlapp noted that Europe had just held “European-wide elections” and there had been no “credible reports of fraud or unusual malfunctions of electoral machines on election day.”
“They’re all running elections,” Schlapp added, speaking of countries overseas. “I’ve not heard any credible stories about fraud or drop boxes. I’m totally against this, CPAC is totally against this. But we live in a reality where they exist. They’re going to be in purple and blue states, and they’ve legalized it. Let’s monitor it.”
Schlapp went on to criticize the idea that seals on ballots or requiring people to show ID when voting are racist, calling them “uniquely American concepts.”
“The idea that voter ID is racist or that it’s racist to require you to stamp your ballot or that it’s racist to stand in line for two minutes to check your ID when you vote is, again, a uniquely American concept. Yes, we had slavery. Yes, we had a lot of racial issues, but we overcame that. But this is something the whole world was dealing with at the time. This is not unique to America. And it seems like they got over centuries of fighting over those issues, and voting is just a scientific approach to the best way to get results. America has to get back to the ideals of engineering to build airplanes and customer service to take care of employees at big corporations. When it comes to voting, let’s make it a simple process that’s impossible to cheat and easy to vote,” Schlapp continued.
