Mickey Dee Moody, 36, and Sean David Moody, 39, were charged with child abuse and neglect and child endangerment after detectives executed a search warrant at their home in connection with an unrelated case.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was assisted by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office in executing a search warrant in Elizabethton, Tennessee on Thursday.

When investigators arrived at the home, they found the two suspects with a 7-year-old boy, who they determined was non-verbal and autistic.

Sean David Moody was arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) on suspicion of abusing a vulnerable adult. After executing a search warrant, agents and deputies discovered filthy living conditions.

“During a search of the residence, unsanitary living conditions were noted,” Carter County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Preston White said in a statement. “Multiple wall outlets had exposed wiring and animal and human waste was found in floor coverings.”

“Information obtained during the initial investigation led to the discovery of a brown storage trunk in the living room,” White continued. “The trunk contained a urine-soaked blanket, a pillow, a half-eaten pizza and clothing with a substance consistent with blood.”

Investigators found that the child was locked in a storage trunk that contained food, and they later shared their findings with the Department of Child Services.

Mickey Dee Moody and Shawn David Moody were booked into the Carter County Detention Center.

Mickey Dee Moody was released after posting $75,000 bail.
