Following a “safe and uneventful” Trump rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, two men were handcuffed and firearms stored in their car were confiscated.
The suspect, Robert Castorna Jr., was charged with North Carolina General Statute 14-277.2, “Prohibition of Weapons in Parades, etc.”, for displaying weapons in his vehicle.

Asheboro police said the 79-year-old man is suspected of being involved in a road rage incident but “has never threatened to assault anyone.”
In a previous Facebook post, the Asheboro Police Department shared a lengthy list of items that are prohibited from the event, including drones and other unmanned aerial systems, explosives and firearms.

“After further investigation, officers determined that a weapon was displayed from within the vehicle during an apparent road rage incident, but was not pointed at anyone,” a press release from Asheboro Police shared with Fox News Digital stated.

“Given these factual findings, the elements of a violation of North Carolina general law relating to a typical weapons offense, assault offense, or state communications threat offense were not met.”
According to police, “The incident occurred away from the event venue as participants were leaving after the event had ended.”

Officers assisting the Secret Service in monitoring the rally “immediately took the suspect into custody” and began an investigation into the incident, despite “rumors” that 79-year-old Castona Jr. had threatened someone at gunpoint.

Robert Castona Jr. was issued a summons and released pending his trial date of Sept. 16, 2024.
