Judge rules 11-year-old boy can play on girl’s tennis team

A U.S. district judge has ruled that a boy who identifies as a girl can play on his school’s girls’ tennis team.

The middle school in Hanover County, Virginia, is at issue in a ruling by U.S. District Judge M. Hannah Lauck that a boy was excluded from the team because of his gender.

Judge Lauck stated that the plaintiffs [school] The Board denied her application to try out for (and, if selected, join) the school’s girls’ tennis team and excluded her from participation in its educational programs because of her gender.”

The boy, named Janie Doe, filed a lawsuit on her own behalf with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia.

“This is child abuse and the parents should go to jail.”

The ACLU alleges that the school discriminated against the boy by not allowing him to play on the team despite him passing a tryout. This is despite the fact that since the passage of the Women in Sports Protection Act in 2021, Virginia law prohibits boys who are biologically male from competing on girls’ and women’s track and field teams.

The judge added, among other arguments, that the child would face “social isolation” and “stigma” if he was not allowed to play with girls, as it would become clear that he was not in fact a girl.

“Because Janie Doe faces a range of harms, including medical regression, social isolation and stigma, financial and logistical burdens, and the defamation of being ‘outed’ as transgender and being told that transgender students are neither welcomed nor encouraged to participate in school athletics, Janie Doe has done more than clearly demonstrate that discrimination has harmed her,” Lauck wrote. The judge was reportedly appointed by former President Barack Obama. Out kickThe injunction will allow the child to play on the girls’ team while the case moves through the courts.

Female sports activist Riley Gaines commented on the story, expressing her shock but claiming that the child had been taking puberty suppressants since the age of seven.

“His parents gave him puberty-suppressing drugs when he was 7 years old. They changed his birth certificate to state he was a female. An Obama-appointed judge allowed him to play tennis with girls,” Gaines wrote. X“This is child abuse and the parents should go to jail.”

The child “identified as a girl from the age of 7,” The Washington Post He also “was diagnosed with gender dysphoria, prescribed puberty suppressants and had his name and birth certificate legally changed to female,” the outlet reported.
