Harris Gave a ‘Very Powerful Speech’ with ‘Unifying Rhetoric’ Like Obama in 08

CNN host Jake Tapper said Thursday during a special segment on the Democratic National Convention that Vice President Kamala Harris gave a “very powerful speech.”

Tapper said, “Vice President Kamala Devi Harris, 59, a daughter of Oakland, has accepted her party’s nomination. Four weeks, five days ago, she wasn’t preparing for this speech, but as she said, she’s no stranger to the unlikely journey. She shared with us her origins as a prosecutor, the story of her childhood friend, Wanda Kagan, who is here tonight, being sexually abused by her stepfather. She spoke about representing the people, Kamala Harris for the people.”

He continued, “She said she would be a president for everyone. And she wanted to create opportunity and an economy for the middle class. It was a platform of progressive politics and unifying rhetoric. It was a platform that featured multiple attacks on her opponent, Donald Trump. And she tried to portray herself as a trusted commander in chief, patriotic, steadfast, confident, trustworthy. She talked about Israel and Palestine. She talked about Ukraine. She talked about the Iranian threat.”

Tapper added, “It was a fantastic speech. I’ve never seen her give a speech like this before. It was a very powerful speech. The last time we’ve seen a Democratic speech like this is probably all the way back to Barack Obama in 2008.”
