Males — just 13 and 14 years old — arrested after brutal, broad-daylight beating of 62-year-man whose tooth was knocked out

New York City police have arrested two boys, aged just 13 and 14, in connection with the assault on a 62-year-old man in broad daylight last month, leaving him with a broken tooth.

The New York Police Department announced the arrests on Thursday. The Staten Island Advance reportedHe added that the two minors were charged with assault with intent to cause bodily injury.

“The point is, anybody’s grandparents could be assaulted while walking down the street just minding their own business, and that’s totally intolerable.”

The attack happened on July 15th around 6:20pm in Staten Island, according to the Advance.

Surveillance Video show Moments before the attack, the video shows nine individuals, all of whom appear to be male, chasing a victim down the sidewalk, at one point one of them appears to make physical contact with the victim, who quickly turns around.

The group continues to chase the victim, who quickly escapes and crosses the street, where another assailant punches him. The group continues to chase the victim, who is pushed from behind, at which point the victim and group disappear from the video frame. An ambulance is seen arriving shortly after.

Police said the assailants punched the victim and threw him to the ground, and he was taken to hospital with missing teeth and minor cuts, according to the Advance.

Moving Forward Previous Story A good Samaritan intervened and prevented the attack, police said.

“His mouth is a mess. He was caught off guard and kicked all over his body,” a relative of the victim, who asked not to be named, told the paper. “He didn’t expect someone to hit him so he fell face-first to the ground.”

The third advance story The victim’s family said the attack cost him about $5,000 in medical bills.

District Mayor Vito Fossella spoke to the paper about the attack.

“The most important thing that government can do, the most important thing that we all share in Staten Island, is that innocent people should not be mistreated. [or] “I watched video show a group of what appeared to be young people getting off the bus, walking up and down Clove Road for several minutes. Fossella also told the paper that the victim was “just walking down the street on a beautiful summer evening, minding his own business.” [and] He ended up being surrounded by the group,” and the victim “may have been struck and killed by a vehicle” as he tried to cross the road to escape the group, the report said.

“The bottom line is that anyone’s grandfather or grandmother could be assaulted simply walking down the street, minding their own business. This is completely intolerable,” Fossella told the Advance.
