MSNBC’s Jen Psaki gushes over Democratic convention, concludes ‘that is America’

MSNBC’s Jen Psaki heaped praise on the Democratic National Convention on Sunday, arguing that America is pretty “aligned” with the Democratic Party and that the Republican National Convention only represents a “small slice” of the country.

“Well, that was one hell of a Democratic convention. Like many of you at home, I laughed, I cried, I cheered. I was moved. Overall, I felt the message and vibe of a victorious campaign,” Psaki began.

Psaki, a former press secretary for President Biden, compared footage from the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee and concluded that the Democrats hold the opinion of the majority of Americans.

“So it really wasn’t a fair fight. But in all seriousness, these contrasts, these joys and joylessness and flatness, the future and the past, unity and division, love and hate, these are choices we make now. And this week really reminded me that our country is more aligned with what we saw in Chicago,” Psaki said.

Wealthy DNC speakers like Oprah and Obama denounce wealth inequality and America’s obsession with money.

“What we saw this week is an America: multicultural, diverse, fun, unique and united. That was the mindset of the majority on display in Chicago: loving America instead of denigrating it; celebrating our diversity instead of rejecting it; embracing it instead of talking about driving our neighbors out of our country. The other America we saw at the Republican Convention is but a small part of it,” Psaki added.

Psaki said there was “more” to the Democratic convention, adding, “How many of you heard Harris and Waltz and so many others talk about how much they love this country and thought, ‘Yes, I love my country too?'”

Other liberal reporters also praised the convention and its speakers throughout the week.

The Grio’s White House reporter April Ryan praised Michelle Obama as “phenomenal” and “the real deal,” and also included former President Obama on the list alongside Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

“I joke, but you’ve got Jesus, you’ve got HBCUs and you’ve got Barack Obama. Maybe things will change. Maybe if Kamala Harris becomes president, it’ll change a little bit. But right now, those are the two people that people want to hear about,” Ryan told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, who called Michelle Obama a “cultural icon.”

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and her MSNBC panelists also praised Gov. Tim Walz’s remarks at the convention, telling viewers that pundits “got out of their seats and started stomping and clapping for the Democratic vice presidential nominee.”

Maddow said the moment was shocking to her and the other MSNBC hosts in the room.
