Presidents Cup: The qualifiers for the USA, International Teams

Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual, Golf Talk Today.

Each day, the crew will discuss a different element of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf and more.

Qualifying is now official for both Team USA and International teams. Sunday marked the final day to claim qualifying spots with the conclusion of the BMW Championship.

The Presidents Cup will be held from September 24th to 29th at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada.

Jim Furyk will captain the U.S. team, while Mike Weir will manage the international team.

Team USA has a record of 12 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw in the biennial tournament.

Let’s take a look at each team’s official qualifying rounds.

Six qualifiers for the U.S. Presidents Cup team

1. Scottie Scheffler
2. Xander Schauffele
3. Collin Morikawa
4. Wyndham Clark
5. Patrick Cantlay
6. Sahith Teegala

Team USA features some of the biggest names in golf, but the best part is that Sahith Teegala has qualified for his Presidents Cup debut. He’ll be a great addition to the team and it will be exciting to see who Furyk pairs him with.

6 Presidents Cup International Team Qualifiers

1. Hideki Matsuyama
2. Lim Sung-jae
3. Adam Scott
4. Tom Kim
5. Jason Day
6. Ahn Byung-hun

Team USA has a lot of talent, but so does the International team. Hideki Matsuyama won the first round of the FedEx Cup playoffs before withdrawing from the BMW Championship. Hopefully he stays healthy and will make it to the Presidents Cup.

Adam Scott took runner-up in the BMW Championship, while Lim Sung-jae finished in the top 15 again.

It will be fun to see what Mike Weir brings to the table with this talented group.

Now it’s up to the captains, who will decide in a week which of the six players will be selected, with the selections to be announced on Tuesday, Sept. 3, just days after the season-ending FedEx Cup.

Will Team USA continue their winning streak or is it time for the international teams to end their streak?
