CBS’ Margaret Brennan told Rep. Pat Ryan, D-New York: Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden’s foreign policy record, particularly with regard to withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“I want to ask you about Afghanistan. In calling for Joe Biden to step down, you also identified Afghanistan as a Biden-Harris issue. In fact, you said the withdrawal was a strategic and moral failure,” Brennan said. “The vice president says she was the last person in the room on that decision. Is that failure also her fault?”
“We need to stop assigning partisan blame on something as fundamental as national security,” Ryan said.
“That’s what you said,” Brennan said, cutting Ryan off.
Trump slams Harris as part of truth social furor over her “omission” from Democratic National Convention speech

“I say that as an American,” Ryan replied, “and I say that as someone who’s been in combat, who has friends who served in Afghanistan. If we don’t make mistakes and overcome them and have some room to do better in the future, how can we expect to remain the great nation that we are today for the next 250 years?”
Brennan noted that the one-year anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal is approaching, and the decision is back in the news.
“I bring this up because we’re approaching the third anniversary of the withdrawal and the deadly attack at Abbey Gate, where 13 service members were killed in an ISIS-K suicide bombing,” Brennan said. “Some military families stood on the stage at the Republican National Convention and spoke about how hurtful it was to them that President Biden didn’t say their names. Do you think the vice president should be speaking about this this week?”
Ryan said Trump had “disrespected and insulted” American veterans, particularly Medal of Honor recipients.
“I believe the Democratic Party is the party of patriots,” Ryan said. “When people vote for Kamala Harris, they can feel they are fulfilling their patriotic duty to bring our country together and stop disrespecting our veterans and military families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. And Kamala Harris has done that and will continue to do that.”

Harris has previously touted her foreign policy record and support for veterans in her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, but made no mention of the 13 U.S. soldiers killed during the White House withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
Former President Trump is scheduled to visit Arlington National Cemetery to pay tribute to the service members killed in a bombing outside Kabul airport during the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
