Harris campaign throws another wrench to jam upcoming debate with Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign is seeking to change the upcoming ABC News debate with former President Donald Trump, saying the campaign was not involved in the original negotiations when Joe Biden was still a candidate.

Harris’ campaign has requested that microphones not be muted when other candidates are speaking, something Trump agreed to during his two debates with Biden.

“We’ve told ABC and other networks considering hosting the October debate that we believe both candidates should have their microphones on the air the entire time,” said Brian Fallon, a senior communications adviser to the Harris campaign.
Politico Playbook“I suspect Trump’s team hasn’t even told their bosses about this controversy because they’d be embarrassed to admit they don’t think they can stand up to VP Harris without a mute button.”

“She’s not good at debating. She’s not a smart person.”

“Enough with the game. We accepted the ABC debate on the exact same terms as the CNN debate. The Harris campaign asked for a sit-down debate with notes and opening statements after already agreeing to the CNN rules. We said there would be no changes to the rules we agreed to,” Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told Playbook.

On XFallon said Trump “should reject attempts by his entourage to silence him by muting his microphone. The Vice President is ready to debate Trump live, uncensored. Trump should stop hiding behind the mute button.”

Harris’ campaign and Politico have argued that the rules for the Sept. 10 debate were set by the Biden campaign, not Harris’s, but she has attempted to play both sides. declare “I’m done talking about debates,” he said. His comments came after Trump said there should be three debates with Harris instead of two because she’s a new candidate. Harris clarified that she would only take part in two debates.

Asked about the microphone issue on Monday, Trump said, “We agreed to the same rules. I don’t know, it’s not important to me. I’d rather have them on. The agreement was to have it the same as last time, where the microphones were muted. I didn’t like it last time, but it worked out.”

Trump suggested the Harris campaign brought up the issue to get her out of the debate: “She’s not a good debater. She’s not a smart person,” he said.
