How Kirk Cameron’s Story Hour Is Sparking a Great Awakening in America

Actor and self-proclaimed author Kirk Cameron hopes his children’s book will spark a “great awakening” to America’s moral decline. Christian PostThe “Growing Pains” actor recently held a picture book reading at the James M. Duncan branch of the Alexandria Public Library in Virginia on Saturday. He read from his book, “Pride Comes Before the Fall,” which he co-wrote with Brave Books Publishing.

In addition to the library event just outside Washington, D.C., Cameron also spoke in Stone Ridge and Stephens City in Northern Virginia.

Cameron has written three children’s books for Brave Books. As we grow, Arrogance is a sign of declineand Foxes, fairs, and inventive horrorEach of these books emphasizes the need to recognize the fruit of the Spirit, to be humble, and to love our enemies.

Prior to the children’s book reading, Cameron led the audience in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing “God Bless America.” As he read, pages from the story were projected on a screen in the background. At the end of story time, Cameron led a prayer and encouraged the children in the audience to build friendships with one another.

In an interview with The Christian Post, Cameron talked about what motivated her to start writing children’s books.

“I’m really a grandfather now,” he said.

“As a grandfather and a father of six, I’m very interested in what our generation does because it will determine so much of what kind of lives our kids will have and what kind of world they’ll grow up in,” Cameron added. “I want to write books and speak to people for as long as I can about having a heart for God, a heart for family, raising kids, not outsourcing parenting to government agencies that have lower goals and motivations than parents for their kids.”

The actor also said he wants to see his children “love their country and be grateful for the sacrifices made by so many men and women to bring this country so much opportunity, freedom and prosperity,” adding that he wants to “do my part to make sure that continues and grows.”

He hopes that the “See You in the Library” event and collaboration with Brave Books will be “the perfect setup for another great awakening in America.”

Referring to past great awakenings in American “revivals,” he said, “people’s eyes are opened, they realize the trouble they’re in, they turn their hearts back to God, and they experience a refreshing and renewal of principles that will reconnect with the flourishing of humanity.”

“These revivals have always occurred in times of moral decline, spiritual apathy, economic collapse and political corruption. … We are seeing just such a phenomenon now.”

“I want to tell people that now is the time to rely on faith, courage, family and to restore a vision of victory — not a fantasy victory of ‘let’s just get to heaven,’ but a cultural victory in our lives,” he concluded.
