An 18-year-old man was killed Monday morning when he was hit by a subway train in Queens after fleeing a fight with other teenagers inside the station.
Police said the two had been fighting on the platform of the Elmhurst Avenue station in Elmhurst around 11 a.m. before the tragedy occurred.
Police said the 18-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released, ran onto the tracks to escape the 19-year-old man and into a tunnel, but slipped and fell onto the tracks.
He was then hit by a Jamaica-bound F train. When officers arrived on scene, they found the boy lying unconscious and unresponsive on the tracks between the Elmhurst Street and Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Street stations.
He was pronounced dead at the police station.
A 19-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Police continued to investigate, but no charges had been filed by Monday night.
The train strike caused “significant disruptions” to service along the F, M, E and R lines for most of the day as emergency teams and investigators responded, the MTA said.
According to the latest information from the transport bureau, the confusion and delays continued into the evening rush hour.
