Leading Republicans have slammed Vice President Kamala Harris for acknowledging that she was “the last person in the room” when President Biden made the sudden decision to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
The criticism came on the anniversary of the deadly suicide bombing at Abbey Gate, which Hamid Karazai International Airport in Kabul, Ultimately, 13 U.S. soldiers were killed and others were wounded.
Prior to this tragic attack, Harris said in an April 2021 interview that he was involved in the decision to evacuate the war-torn region. CNN’s Dana Bash“He made a really big decision on Afghanistan. Were you the last person in the room?” Bash asked Harris. “Yes,” Harris replied, adding that she was “pleased” with the president’s decision and admired his courage in making it.
This year marks the third anniversary of the tragic incident, and some Republican lawmakers have relentlessly criticized Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, for her comments, with some arguing they indicate she was involved in the tragic decision.…read more
