Three people, including a mother, were arrested last week in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy who was handcuffed by his hands and feet and attacked by a pit bull inside an Ohio home, police said.
According to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was bitten on the neck and ear around 5 p.m. on August 17 and was transported by helicopter from his Savannah home to a hospital in critical condition. The office said.
After the attack, sheriff’s investigators found the boy’s hands and feet were restrained when the aggressive dog attacked him, authorities said.
A search warrant at the home where the raid took place uncovered evidence that led to the arrests of the boy’s mother, Angelina Williams, and Robert Michalski Jr., who is believed to be the boy’s great-uncle, according to the warrant. WOIO Report.
“I walked in and I saw my grandson sitting on the floor, I wasn’t trying to be mean, but I was wondering why he was handcuffed,” the boy’s grandmother told the station. “I said take the handcuffs off him right now.”
The grandparents reached out to help their grandchild and suffered minor injuries in the process.
Williams, a Cleveland native, lived in the home with Michalski’s family, who own the house and the dog.
He was found hiding with his dog in a hideout on the second floor of the home before being taken into custody.
When authorities responded to the incident, Michalski and his dog allegedly ran away from the home before returning.
The mother’s boyfriend, Taylor Desiree Marvin Brown, was also arrested for allegedly helping to restrain the boy, according to the sheriff’s office.
The pit bull was also taken away by police, according to the sheriff’s office.
Williams was charged with child endangerment, while Michalski was charged with child endangerment and tampering with evidence, WOIO reported.
Marvin Brown is reportedly facing charges of child endangerment and obstruction of justice.
