Caitlin Clark made a self-deprecating joke after watching a replay of the ankle injury she sustained in the first half of the Fever's 84-79 win over the Dreams on Monday night.
The Fever rookie sprained his ankle while playing defense in the first quarter and fell to the floor, clutching his ankle as he writhed in pain.
“I saw the replay and it looked really weak,” Clark said, as Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell and head coach Christy Sides laughed. “It wasn't a terrible turn, but it hurt.
“So sometimes you just need to take a moment. If you've ever twisted your ankle, it was just a little bit painful and you were OK.”
Clark walked to the bench on his own and was examined by the training staff.
The star rookie was seen sitting without his shoes and with tape around his ankles.
Clark remained on the bench for the remainder of the first quarter due to an injury threat, before returning at the start of the second quarter.
She finished with 19 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.
Her four 3-pointers tied the rookie record of 85 made by the Dreams' Rhyne Howard in 2022.
Mitchell led the Fever in scoring with 29 points.
Aliyah Boston, the Fever's No. 1 overall pick in 2023, recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The win over Atlanta gave the Fever their third win in four games since the break and keeps them in contention for the WNBA playoffs.
The Fever (14-16) will play the Sun (22-7) at home on Wednesday.
