Patrick Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony charge of third-degree or higher DUI in Smith County, Texas, according to court records.
The 54-year-old former MLB pitcher, father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, agreed to five years of probation, with the first year under “intense” supervision. According to KLTV.
Mahomes' father pleaded guilty on the same day that a jury trial in Smith County was scheduled.
Mahomes Sr.'s formal sentencing is scheduled for September 23rd.
Other details about his plea agreement have not been released.
Mahomes Sr.'s attorney, Joseph D. Murphy, said his client is currently sober.
“Today, Mr. Mahomes pleaded guilty in his case pursuant to a written plea agreement.” Murphy told NBC News.
“Our client is currently living a sober life and we believe the steps he has taken to improve his life have helped him obtain a recommendation for probation.”
Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Feb. 24 for a traffic violation and his third DUI, just eight days before his son led the Chiefs to a win over the 49ers in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
He allegedly had “visible open containers of alcoholic beverages” in his vehicle and “admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages.” According to the incident report: The photo was obtained by Us Weekly.
Mahomes Sr. was also arrested in June in Tyler, Texas, for driving with an invalid driver's license. He is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing on that charge on Oct. 15, according to KLTV.
Penalties for a third-offense DUI include a $10,000 fine, two to ten years in prison, and loss of driver's privileges for up to two years. According to state law.

He remarried after divorcing Randy Mahomes in 2006. The couple have two sons, Patrick Mahomes and Jackson Mahomes.

In 2018, Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to a second DUI charge and was sentenced to 40 days in jail, which he served on weekends in 2019 and 2020.
District Judge Keri Russell said in court on Tuesday that Mahomes Sr. was arrested in South Dakota in September 2008, according to reports.
Mahomes Sr. played 11 seasons as a pitcher in MLB from 1992-2003, including a stint as a pitcher for the New York Mets in 1999.
He also pitched for the Twins, Red Sox, Rangers, Cubs and Pirates.
