Aggressive water buffalo on the run in Iowa town

That's a ridiculous story.

An Iowa town is on high alert after an aggressive buffalo escaped a dramatic police standoff despite being shot by an officer.

The owner of the menacing animal called 911 on Saturday morning to report the animal had escaped its enclosure and was wandering around the suburb of Pleasant Hill. KCCI reported.

“It's running down the road. I want someone to shoot it,” the unidentified owner told police.

Police had difficulty getting the animal back to safety as it ran through a yard and easily jumped over a chain-link fence, according to video obtained by KCCI.

In another yard, a buffalo briefly confronted a small family dog.

At one point, officers tried to get the animals' attention by yelling, “Hey, it's a bull!” to no avail.

The team used a drone to conduct an extensive aerial search and sent officers out to search local trails on ATVs.

“If you see a buffalo, do not approach it. We have heard from owners that the animals are aggressive,” the Pleasant Hill Police Department warned residents on Monday.

“The safety of the Pleasant Hill community is our number one priority. With a dangerous animal escaping into our area, we are taking every measure to keep our community safe and, where possible, strive to return animals to their owners,” they added.
