Hey there Dudes and welcome to the US Open 2024 – day three!

And again, there’s so much ridiculous tennis it’s hard to know where to begin. We’ve got Madison Keys and Francis Tiafoe on Ashe while, on Armstrong, it’s Paula Badosa – her match against Taylor Townsend could be a goodun – followed by Alexander Zverev, yet again seeking a first Grand Slam title, and Aryna Sabalenka, this blog’s favourite for the women’s crown.

But as we reminded ourselves yesterday, at this stage of a tournament the best matches are likely to come away from the two main show courts, and we’ve got quite the selection. We’ll see Barbora Krejcikova, the Wimbledon champ; Ben Shelton v Roberto Bautista Agut; Casper Ruud v Gael Monfils; and Elina Svitolina v Anhelina Kalinina.

Is that it? Nope! There’s also Griggzy Dimitrov, Lorenzo Musetti, Andrey Rublev, Daria Kasatkina and the surging Alexei Popyrin; Harriet Dart v Marta Kostyuk, a potential belter between Brandon Nakashima and Arthur Cazaux, a Facundo Cerundolo v Tomas Etcheverry Argentinian derby and Donna Vekic v Geet Minnen. Awesome!

Main Events

Dimitrov is an interesting guy. If he had been the same competitive player and competitor 10 years ago, he might have made it to a major final, but for some reason it took him a while to internalize his talent, and now he appears in the second week of every Grand Slam but never has a shot at winning. He holds a 1-0 lead over Hijikata.

I don't know why, but Sky are showing the same match as the tennis in the main event. I hope the situation will change. I am watching both matches with that hope in mind. But until that happens, I can only watch two matches, so I think I will watch the second one, Hijikata vs. Dimitrov (9).

But Townsend is one of the few serve-volleyers on tour. That alone makes her difficult to play, and if she were playing today, it would be expected that she would have issues.

About Armstrong Both Badosa and Townsend are pregnant, and while Badosa is doing well (winning in Washington and reaching the semifinals in Cincinnati), she still has a long way to go before she loses a game she shouldn't lose while not fully recovered from a back injury.

How TV works You'll be content with what's on Sky's two channels and then it's down to picking the best from the rest.

So which games should you watch?

First of all: My colleague Luke McLaughlin broke the good news to us via the official US Open account.

preamble

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 3 of the US Open 2024!

Once again, there is so much crazy stuff in tennis that it's hard to know where to begin. Ashe has Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe, Armstrong has Paula Badosa, whose match against Taylor Townsend will be amazing, followed by Alexander Zverev, again seeking his first Grand Slam title, and Aryna Sabalenka, the women's favorite for this blog.

But as we recalled yesterday, at this stage of the tournament, the best matches are likely to come from the two main show courts, with quite a selection to choose from: we'll see matches between Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, Ben Shelton vs Roberto Bautista Agut, Kasper Ruud vs Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina vs Agnieszka Kalinina.

Is that all? No! We also have Grizzly Dimitrov, Lorenzo Musetti, Andrey Rublev, Daria Kasatkina, the on-trend Alexei Popyrin, Harriet Dart vs Marta Kostyuk, a potential clash between Brandon Nakashima and Arthur Cazaux, the Argentine derby between Facundo Cherndolo and Tomas Echeverri, and Donna Vekic vs Geert Minnen. Wow!

Play time: 11am local time, 4pm BST
