Adam Schefter's comments (or lack thereof) about the big-money signing of Travis Kelce sent the world's top Swifties into uproar on Tuesday.
While breaking news this week that Kansas City's star tight end had purchased ownership of a racehorse named Swift Delivery, “NFL Live” host Laura Rutledge commented that Kelsey hadn't bought his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, an “engagement ring.” That comment prompted follow-up questions from Schefter and, combined with a lengthy silence, sparked intense speculation.
“How do you know Travis Kelcy hasn't bought an engagement ring?” Schefter asked. Rutledge replied, “I don't know, do you?”
With NFL insiders remaining tight-lipped, Rutledge asked the empty airwaves, “Are we going to announce any big news here?”
Schefter blinked before finally responding, “I'm just wondering how you got that information when you said he didn't buy an engagement ring.”
Booger McFarland then addressed the elephant in the room.
“That awkward silence says a lot, Shefty. Do you know something, Shefty? America wants to know,” McFarland pressed.
“All I did was ask how Laura knew he hadn't bought an engagement ring. That's all I did,” Schefter responded.
Rutledge ended the segment by telling Schefter that he plans to play the role of a body language expert after the show ends.
“Adam, I'm going to watch this again and analyze all of your facial movements. Now we're going to move on to the actual news,” she said.
Kelsey and Swift, 34, have been captivating the public with their year-long romance and have been the subject of constant engagement rumors in recent months.
nevertheless Insiders Kelsey told Page Six that an engagement is imminent, but her rep denied the speculation earlier this month.
Page Six previously reported The three-time Super Bowl champion asked Swift's father, Scott, for his blessing before getting down on one knee.
Fresh off recently wrapping up the European legs of her smash-hit Eraser Tour, Swift reunited with Kelsey in Rhode Island over the weekend for some quality time with friends ahead of the start of the NFL season.
Kelce and the Chiefs will open the season next Thursday at home against the Ravens.
It remains to be seen whether Swift, who attended 13 Chiefs games last season, including the Super Bowl, will attend.
She played in her first game at Arrowhead Stadium last September.
