She has placed these passengers on the no-fly list.
Given the number of barbarians in the skies these days, it may seem difficult to pick the most irritating passenger.
But one British flight attendant has taken on the tough job and compiled a list of the passengers who cause her the most pain on planes (hint: they're not celebrities).
“When you look at superstars and people who can afford the tickets, you think they're generally very nice, polite people,” said a former Virgin Atlantic employee. Sky Taylor49, He told the Daily Mail.
Instead, the 16-year aviation veteran rated dealing with the internet as the most “difficult” thing to do.
“The main issue is on routes like Dubai and Las Vegas where you get influencer-type customers who maybe aren't paying full price,” the Southampton native said.
Some restaurateurs might agree that restaurant colleagues asking for free service are equally irritating.
In fact, the only thing worse than an influencer getting high is an influencer getting “high,” according to Taylor, who believes a sect of content creators in Los Angeles are at their worst when they're high.
“In Los Angeles, it's common for people to take sleeping pills or Valium or other drugs and then go on a boat and drink,” she argued, “and that changes people's personalities. I think we need to be careful to see how things change people's behavior.”
Crew members say bad behaviour is not limited to a particular class of plane.
The cause of the disturbance was “one person in economy class” or “two people on the upper floors” [Virgin’s business class]” she explained.
“You never know what would cause someone to behave out of character and it's very difficult to assess what they've ingested,” she explained.
In fact, the real reason flight attendants greet passengers at the door isn't just to be friendly, but to assess whether the passenger is intoxicated, along with other warning signs.
Although dealing with bad actors in the air can be tough, Taylor said she felt supported by Virgin Atlantic – a luxury she feels budget airline cabin crew aren't afforded.
“I really feel sorry for the budget airline crew, they don't seem to have the same back up as us,” she said. “There are a lot of incidents happening at the moment and most of it has to do with alcohol and people's behaviour on board. It seems to be encouraged at the moment, which is a danger in itself.”
Obviously, the worst type of passenger is subjective.
Other flight attendants cited mile-high clubbers, moody passengers and those who stow their jackets in overhead bins as equally worthy of inscription on the Mount Rushmore of aerial mayhem and meltdowns.
